A thank you letter to my children...

This is not the first time I have been awestruck with this revelation, nor the third.
I wish to thank my children...

As I go through my day, away from Hayley and Zachary... Much of my time, when they are with me, is spent at work, while they are at school and home.

As a chef, I spend a lot of my time communicating with people of all walks. Inevitably, the conversation turn towards children and families.( ok, time to clarify, I work at a resort, some conversations stretch days at times).

I was reminded of this tonight when a teacher, from the middle school, came in for dinner with his wife.

I thanked him for everything he has ever done for my children, and all the others he has guided along the way.

I feel a wave of gratitude for Hayley and Zachary. I only have wonderful things to share. I talk about what great students they are through their own hard work and conscious attention. I am given a moment to share that they have chosen to avoid drugs and alcohol. The are both, not only musically inclined, Hayley's singing and piano playing, Zachary's teaching himself the guitar. But also creative, Hayley's eye in photography and Zach drawing his own comic books. Both get great grades in school.

I thank my children for their desire to make good choices for themselves. A choice usually not only serving them, but others as well. When Hayley speaks, she speaks words of truly thoughtful ideas... She has plans...

Zach is truly a warrior of the light... he defends those who need defending and offers great joy and kindness to those around him.

I thank you for trusting me to be your father... For allowing me to be a guide in your lives, albeit briefly, Before you stake out and make your choice to show up in the world. With your sword of truth, shield of knowledge and armor of spirit.

Using the words of Depak Chopra, since you were young, I have always told you I will always take care of you. Your job is to figure out why you are here and go after it. You have so far done this masterfully.

Thank you my children... for making the job of being your father, one of joy, love, laughter, tears, growth...

I truly love everything about you... Your Father, Michael
